No one was more delighted than I to learn that my favorite Brazilian salgados are now available in San Francisco. Cafe de Casa of South San Francisco expanded to the City two months ago opening a sunny cafe on Leavenworth where it intersects with Columbus and North Point. The new spot has more seating than the original, but not much kitchen space. The menu has changed up for this location. No lunch plates here nor Saturday feijoada. Now it has introduced Brazilian style gluten-free crepes made with tapioca flour, more salads, and açai bowls.
However, I was here for the salgados. The full assortment is available and kept in a hot box for ready consumption. My favorite, the chicken and cream cheese-filled coxinha is still the best I've had outside of Brazil. And the pão de queijo GF cheese bread is tops too. These savory snacks that can be eaten out of hand while walking will be popular with the tourists.
Now that it's easier to grab a table, I'll be more inclined to linger a bit over a cup of pour over coffee. And I'll be sure to try some of the new menu items next time.
