Cafe Cakes!

Boiled Egg | Apr 12, 2006 05:31 PM

Finally! The long-awaited re-opening of Cafe Cakes! After reading the post by A Fish Called Wanda (THANKS!) that Cafe Cakes was opening today, my huz and I wandered down there for lunch at noon. As you walk in, you'll notice the counter and the assorted pasteries and cakes on display. To the right of that, is the seating area. This space is bright/airy and open, perhaps a little too open. But the couch and armchairs among the dark wood table and chairs draw your eyes away from the openess/emptiness. There's definitely more seating than what they had in Belmont, which is great! They also have 2 tables on the patio area.
The food is just as wonderful as we remember. The chicken curry panini sandwiches were really pressed and HOT. The (sesame) bread was crunchy, almost cripsy, and the chicken meat moist and tender. The caramel milk tea, one of their new house special drinks, was a liquid version of the milk tea pudding with caramel and a delicious companion to the sandwich. For dessert, my huz had a raspberry chocolate mousse and I had my milk tea pudding to satisfy my craving. The menu looked almost the same with some new additions, like the special house drinks I mentioned (strawberry latte shake, french soda water?) and I believe more coffee items. I hope they get more pedestrian traffic and therefore more customers in this new location. I am just glad that they are even closer to me than before!
