Cafe Brasil

I've stopped by Cafe Brasil on 9th Ave. btw 50th & 51st for snacks a few times lately, and wanted to share what I found.

I'm pretty sure the place is run by the same owners as Rice and Beans, especially because when I went a few days before Valentine's, the girl behind the counter was hustling R & B's Valentine's special dinner. (it could have been annoying, but I was flattered that she assumed I had somebody to take out for Valentine's.)

Anyway, they have coffee and baked goods, and are only open during the day. A little glass case holds chicken croquettes, little cheese dumplings, and some other fried goodies. They're not a revelation, but make for pretty tasty snacks.

They serve donuts which look really good, but I've yet to try one, and the most interesting item -- the cupcakes. They're really spongy, and covered with a ton of super sweet frosting. I don't usually like cupcakes, but for some reason I tried one of these, then tried another, then another. There's something about the cake itself - it's really airy - that keeps bringing me back.

Anyone else tried this place?
