For my birthday, I am looking to make real magret de canard (i.e., duck breasts from ducks raised to provide foie gras). Is it possible to find well-priced magret de canard (and goose fat) in LA? (Hopefully close to Los Feliz?) I remember the last time I bought goose fat I got a tiny tin from Whole Foods for $7; this seemed like a complete rip-off, given that in the Bay Area it's possible to buy a veritable vat for about $15.
Also -- if you've had a fabulous magret de canard at a restaurant (or great luck with a particular recipe), I'd be interested to hear. Recently had a fantastic dining experience at Bistro Central Parc in Haight/Ashbury in San Francisco, and would like to try to replicate the dish in my kitchen!
