Yesterday there was a Burmese New Years water fest on Henry St.This was the 11th year running! I've been going to the Burmese Baptist fest in Briarwood since 2000 so I'm well versed in the Burmese street fairs. However, this fest was really good. It seemed as if there were twice as many food stalls (mainly run by what appears to be somebodys Mom or grand mother). Most of the stalls sold a variety of noodle dishes. At most stalls you can tweak the dish as you like (leave out the MSG/special salt and load up on the drie dchilli powder...). I had too many dishes from a variety of stalls to recount and forgot to bring a camera! DOH! Considering the dearth of Burmese food, let alone good Burmese, if you can't get to Brairwood, this is a good option for next year.
The only bad thing, is 1) Burmese rap 2) Be prepared to get soaked (@ this fair , not Briarwood) as the ritual calls for it. However, I did not get soaked as most folks (actually kids) are quite cool about it and will only soak those they know.
