Brooklyn's Chinatown!

Rory Bernstein-Kerber | Oct 30, 2002 02:31 PM

Hey eveyone. I spent an hour wandering around Brooklyn's Chinatown, which I had never done before. Walked along 8th Avenue from 54th street to 60th street in both directions. I saw a Malaysian restaurant called Nyonya (on the east side of 8th ave, around 56th street). Anyone out there ever eaten there? Have recommendations for dishes to try? Also am eager to try a Chinese place called Ocean Palace. I hear they have good dimsum. Anyone been there?

I found a Chinese meat store where a woman was making homemade dumplings; I had to buy those. They were soft little pillows. I boiled them in chicken broth and served them with a mixture of soy sauce and white vinegar. They were so tasty. Place was on 8th Ave, west side of the street, around 57th. Big busy place with lots of meat. If I go again I'll make a note of the address.

I was amazed at the number of food stores: many fish places, meat places, produce shops. The produce prices are really good. Please write in if you know of any special finds in this neighborhood (Sunset Park).
