Brioche Donut by Mr. Holmes Bakery in San Francisco

A surprise find for my initial visit to Saint Frank Coffee on Saturday morning . . . lemon curd-filled brioche donuts, $3.

They’re made by Mr. Holmes Bakery, founded by a former Saint Frank barista. The donut fillings change regularly. The other choice that day was sweet cream. The richness and fluffy loft of the egg and dairy fried dough comes the closest to Polish paczki, a Lenten tradition, that I’ve run across around here.

Mr. Holmes Bakery is strictly wholesale for the time being, supplying coffee houses such as St. Frank. But, this instagram mentions that a boutique will open in the months to come.
