I’ve owned the Breville BOV800XL Smart Oven for a few months now and I’m very happy with it. I was always reluctant to buy one because of its spotty (no better than average) reliability ratings, short warranty and price, 3X what a good toaster oven can be had for. Nevertheless, because I use a toaster oven almost exclusively instead of my regular oven, I wanted the best.
Is it the best? Well, this unit is replacing a sub $100.00 still working Cuisinart that I bought @ Costco a few years ago. It is better than that unit but only marginally so. Controls are excellent, well thought out and intuitive to use. Toasting bread is about the same, not perfect but fine for me. I like the fact that it is large enough to hold a one quarter sheet pan. It heats up quickly (1,800 watts) and has multiple rack positions. I bake yeast breads in it and it works well, good oven spring with the convection fan on. The Cuisinart baked breads well too. I particularly like the “warming” function of the Breville. You can set it to whatever temperature and for how long you want. That makes it a great bread or plate warmer. Overall, a terrific machine and I would buy it again but if I didn’t use my toaster oven often, I probably would opt for a well reviewed cheaper machine.
