We are heading from here (Philly area) to the Alto-Adige in late Nov to see the Christmas markets for just 4 days. It has been on my list of "must do" trips and we are finally getting away over Thanksgiving to do so. Here is the itinerary: travel to Bressanone/Brixen, and staying at the Hotel Goldener Adler for 4 nights before heading home, flying out of Innsbruck back to the US.
Plan to attend the Christmas markets in Bressanone, Brunico, Bolzano and two days, hire a car and driver to take us to Castelrotto and drive the "loop" around the Dolomites ending the afternoon in Brunico (for the market and dinner), and then back to Bressanone. I have made a note to have lunch one day at Pre de Costa, but don't know where to go for lunch or the 3 dinners other than that. Some places are closed before December because it is not quite ski season (I have heard) until closer to Christmas. Our group of 4 is the type that will spend any amount of money, but is not interested in Michelin stars because we have a preference for more casual, "eat like the locals" type of dining. In Rome, we have loved Enoteca Corsi and Armando al Pantheon and Antica Arco, to give you an idea. Any ideas in the Alto Adige region -- or anywhere in Bressanone, Brunico, Bolzano, Castelrotto, or along the Gardena Pass??? I love CH -- can't wait to hear any and all advice!!
