A few breakfasts/brunches, Bermondsey & Borough, London

• Roast (Borough Market)
Atmospheric and airy dining room, with views from a corner of Borough market. Basic orange juice, an acceptable Darjeeling. A pair of nicely poached eggs, with slightly pale yolks. An almost spongy black pudding slightly oily, but good earthy flavour. Excellent sausages, the pork perhaps smoothened over with some sort of grain (rice?). Good bacon, meaty rashers and crispy brittle cuts. A portebello cap, a grilled tomato half, and finally, crispy fried bread. Pretty good food overall, and a lot of it. My soft spots were probably the sausages and black pudding. Slightly expensive for what it is at £13 (not including beverages).

• The Garrison (Bermondsey Street)
Probably my pick amongst the ones in this post. A quaint gastropub with colours and setting the lighthness of a fairy tale. Very good sausages, very similar to the ones at Roast. Solid bacon, sunny fried eggs, yolks running nicely into a piece of toast. Grilled portebello and tomato. Bonus for a nice crock of baked beans. (£8.50 for the food) Reviving coffee, smooth and deep.

• Bermondsey Kitchen (Bermondsey Street)
A bracing mix of carrot ginger and apple juice, sweetness and tart finished with a gust of ginger. Spinach perfectly wilted, glossy with oil. Bits of herb enhancing the portebello. The iconic half of a grilled tomato in the centre of the plate. Nice steaky bacon, a very porky meaty sausage. A shadow of vinegar in the poached eggs, good roasted potato to help wipe up the yolk. (£9.15 not counting juice.)

• Fuzzy's Grub (Tooley Street)
Thick creamy porridge, just the right amount of sweetness from honey and sultanas. Excellent and cheap at £1.60 for take-away.
