Finally had an opportunity to swing by Caffe 817 this morning (817 Washington, between 8th & 9th Streets, in Old Oakland). Great place! I had one of the two breakfast specials -- two perfectly poached eggs on toasted levain bread, with a glob of black truffle-spiked tapenade on top of each egg -- Yowza! I want my eggs this way every time now, OK? Oh -- the other special was two poached eggs with prosciutto di Parma (both specials were $7.25).

Add in a bowl of delicious caffe latte, a sidewalk table in the glorious warm sunshine, a New York Times, reading glasses (sigh) , same-block parking (I heart Oakland!)... who could ask for anything more!
