Brasserie des Artistes report

Les Grubbes celebrated the arrival of le beaujolais nouveau last nite at Brasserie des Artistes (Wilshire/San Vicente -- mid-city, not Brentwood). What a neighborhood treasure. This year's nouveau seems fruitier than ever, but wo any comparisons may simply be the Grubster's palate.

Burgundian special menu for the month. Started with foie gras "deux" -- two styles on same plate. A poached version with fresh greens & a brulee -- rich, rich, rich, creamy foie gras-infused custard, bruleed. Did I mention rich? Both slam-dunk terrific.

Mains: pour la Madame Grubbe, quail stuffed w foie gras stuffing (Are we discerning a trend here?)in a red wine reduction sauce. Marvelous. Le Grubmonsieur selected black cod Lyonnaise, grilled cod on a bed of potatoes mashed w (perhaps) foie gras in a mushroom burgundy reduction sauce. Perfectly cooked, 11 out of a possible 10.

Not inexpensive. But for quality received, mains at $26 & starter at $17 were flat-out bargains.

Among many fine meals at Le Brasserie, this was most outstanding. Highly recommended.
