A recent stop for lunch at Brass Rail was a funny trip indeed. I sat at the bar, ordered a dark beer. Ice cold beer. Too cold.
The bartender steered me to a burger and suggested medium rare.
"Sirloin Burger Au Poivre
Caramelized onion, mushroom, swiss cheese, peppercorn sauce" - $15
(served w/shoe string fries and slaw)"
The large burger was raw. Not "black and blue", just "blue". No char on the outside. The sesame seed bun that is somewhat popular today and is also found at Bobby's Burger Palace, somehow didn't help this sandwich as it does fit Bobby's burgers well.
Sloppy as it was, it was just as flavorless. The accompanying "shoe string fries" were horrible and a pain in the ass to eat. I guess they just dumped a bag of dry unsalted crispy potato sticks onto the plate and called it a day. The slaw came in a small ramekin with a quarter teaspoon of slaw on the bottom.
I left disappointed and wishing I had something flavorful to eat.
This wasn't my first visit here. I've been before and wasn't tasting the chefs hand in the food. Somehow I can still laugh about it. I may just have to write this place off my list.
