Brain Yogurt

When I was a kid, I remember a friend having this really unusual yogurt culture.

It was white and no joke, looked like a little brain.

You would just plop it into a quart or so of milk, keep it warm for a day or so, and viola, yogurt.

Then you just fished around, retrieved the "brain" rinsed it off in water, and it was fine. It could even keep for a decent amount of time in the fridge in the yogurt.

The kicker, the "brain" grew the more you used it. In fact, you could break off a chunk and give some to a friend.

I know that making yogurt in any case is pretty simple. Just need some yogurt from a previous batch as starter, etc. But the brain-yogurt was pretty cool.

Anybody else ever heard of the brain-yogurt culture?
