Bountiful Rice Plate @ Little Sichuan Express, Fremont

At our recent chowdown, I was overwhelmed by the serving size. This applies as well to the $4.50 (plus tax) rice plate with two items, plus soup. For take-out lunch yesterday, I picked 1) cumin lamb and 2)dry-fried string beans with pork from the steam table. With wide-eyed appreciation, I couldn't believe how much the counter woman scooped into the styro box. As you can see from the grease spots on the lid, it was completely full. Three ladles each of the lamb and the beans, and the equivalent of two rice bowls full of steamed rice. And while she was doing this, the man who seemed to be the manager looked on approvingly and said to me that I'd have enough for dinner too. At least!

The egg drop, tomato-flavored soup was insipid. But it was a good palate-cleanser, cooler-downer for the fiery meal I'd picked. The cumin lamb was as I'd remembered the version at the San Mateo location. The green beans were nicely seared and still snappy with great flavor. For lunch yesterday, I ate less than a third of this helping.

I love this place!
