Boule yesterday

Well, I thought I needed to post because nobody in the thread below has mentioned their ice cream. It being a warm day yesterday, on entering the store (which looks like it should be on Madison Ave. in NYC or at the very least on Montana in my nabe), I felt compelled to sample the ice cream/sorbets. The blood orange (mixed with something I don't remember) ice cream was incredible, but the counter guy suggested I try the lime/basil sorbet, and this was mind-blowing. This was without doubt the most perfectly flavored sorbet I have ever tasted in my life. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would probably OD on it. (Don't let the basil part throw you off--it's an accent. Dont' let the sorbet part throw you off--taste it anyway). Also tried creme fraiche sorbet (!)--amazing. These ice creams are extraordinarily good, if you haven't gotten the message yet.

And I certainly can't complain about the service or the crowds--I was there about 4:30 in the afternoon and there were only a couple of other people coming in and out while I was there. And one of the nice young guys, when I said I needed to remember the names of everything for my post, insisted on writing all the names down for me.

I took home the following in several of their gorgeous aqua-colored boxes with brown ribbon (matching the aqua-colored walls--I guess it's aqua--an odd but pleasing color).

1) 1 macaron (yes they have macaroons too). I tried rose petal/raspberry, which was overly sweet for me. Next time will try the chocolate or the meyer lemon.

2) One of those konign amman cinammon-flavored pastries that people have already described--a round puff pastry with a star design on top. Amazingly rich and fairly sweet--definitely needed coffee and another person to share it but a wonderful taste.

3) Two chocolates (they're $5.00 for 2!!)--I like dark chocolate so tried the maya (espresso cocoa nib) and dante (sicilian pistachio). Both lovely. You can't go wrong, but not the best dark chocolate I've ever had, to be honest.

4) A meyer lemon tartlet. This for me was really wonderful and perfect--crust, slightly creamy flavor. This is the right size for one person. I still have half of it left calling to me from the kitchen.

Total tab was $17.59 or thereabouts. They definitely need a few stools and a place to drink coffee, but if I lived in the neighborhood I'd probably be gaining 10 pounds a month!
