Blues City BBQ -- San Diego

This past weekend I continued on my quest for the best BBQ in San Diego county by taking a trip to Mr Hogg's Blues City BBQ in San Marcos. From what I can gather online, this is a relatively new place. The interior is cleanly decorated with pictures of Jazz musicians and quasi-50's-diner booths.

Blues City serves Memphis-style BBQ. Having never had that style before I can't be a good judge of the authenticity. However, I can say that the food was very good. My fiancee and I both had the shredded pork sandwich with baked beans. The beans had a good balance of sweet and salty. The sandwich was on a slightly chewy roll; the pork was tender with mild smoke flavor; coleslaw topping was provided on the side and blended well with the BBQ flavor. They also provided a heated BBQ sauce bottle--a nice touch since I always like to drench my sandwich.

My only nit to pick is that it seemed to take too long (15 minutes?) to receive our food in spite of being one of only two parties in the restaurant. Maybe I was just too hungry after walking around the Wild Animal Park all morning... Service, however, was friendly and helpful!

If you're in the San Marcos area and want to try some tasty BBQ, I recommend Blues City!
