Blue Oven, Nordstrom's Burlington Mall

My wife and I were in the Burlington Mall last Saturday evening and decided to try the new restaurant that opened on the second floor of Nordstrom's. Both of us were pleasantly surprised and would go back again if we were in the mall. This place also gives people a much needed option over Legal Seafoods, The Cheesecake Factory, Rain Forest Cafe and the food court.

The Blue Oven features "small plates" which allow you to sample a bunch of different items depending on how hungry you are and how many people are in your party. My wife ordered one of the specials they were offering on Saturday which was sauteed green and white asparagus with fresh morel mushrooms in a buttery sauce. My wife loved this dish. We shared an order of the Salt & Pepper fried calamari which would have better if it hadn't been left in the fryolator so long. The calamari was very fresh but it was slightly over cooked which gave it a kind of burned taste. This dish was the only weak part of our meal.

I had a Chopped Salad which was served on a bed of frisee. The salad was composed of fresh corn kernels, peas, celery, tomatoes and green beans in a very nice vinaigrette. I also had an order of their grilled scallops which were served over a bed of lemon risotto. The scallops and risotto were both very good and made for a nice combination. Because we sat at the bar which overlooks the kitchen we could see that the risotto was being freshly made and it turned out to be very cr5eamy with a nice light lemony taste. My wife had the crab cakes which she enjoyed because they were mostly fresh lump crab meat with very little filler added. This may sound like a lot of food but because each of these dishes are small we were not over stuffed at the end of the meal. We had enough room left to split a Creme Brulee with caramelized bananas for dessert which was also very good. Most of the dishes are less than $10.00 each. The Blue Oven serves a nice selection of beer and wines too.

As I said earlier, we would definitely go back again if we happen to be in the mall for any reason. This restaurant offers a nice variety of dishes which are well prepared along with reasonable prices and it is nice to have another option over the other restaurants in the mall.
