Blue Moon Cafe Bonita Springs Naples area

NYFoodie | May 18, 200610:22 AM

We tried the Blue Moon Cafe, in Bonita Springs Fla, after reading about it on Chowhound, and it was just ok.

Being form out of town, it was hard to find, off 41 on a noisy extension of "old 41".

The couple leaving as we came in said to try the Bonita Bistro" if we didn't like this, not a great start.

Blue Moon Cafe was pretty much empty..not a good sign either! The few other diners wore shorts, baseball caps, and were much more casual than the atmosphere and prices might suggest. Fine with us, we're on vacation. The table next to us talked loudly about their new tattoos, a friend's problems on getting out of prison, and their favorite beers. The lady owner recognized them as regulars. They were pleasant enough, and we were happy to see regulars at a place.

Our local frends later said they have had some negative reviews from the newspaper, so perhaps that's why the waiter was in our hair all night, seeing if all was ok. He overdid it, and stopped our conversation too many times. The appetizers were just ok, my shortribs were so-so, potatoes werre tasteless, and we skipped dessert, as it was getting pretty pricey for a "just ok" restaurant.

We then tried Bonita Bistro, on Bonita Beach Road, and had a very good meal in a nicer warmer setting, for less money. They had over half the tables filled...a good sign. Live and learn.

Blue Moon Cafe is not bad and not very good either, pricier than their food quality, and probably a great spot to the couple who were obviously repeat locals here. if you are thinking of this spot in a tourist area-Bonita/Naples, try the better place, Bonita Bistro, not far away.

You won't find people at Bonita Bistro telling you to go elsewhere!
