blue frog (jp), muqueca (cambridge)

the pumpkin scone at blue frog was okay. it was kind of cakey; i was expecting something rougher and shaggier in crust. i hardly tasted pumpkin but knew it was there because of the color. the blueberry coffee cake slice was fine, but i wished for more blueberries. quite buttery, rich, and typical. the desserts are the bakery's forte (esp. the chocolate mousse cake), so i'll have to go back and try those.

picked up desserts at muqueca after finding that o'cantinho was closed on sundays (hoping to get some pasteis de nata). got tapioca pudding (quite good with shreds of coconut in the pudding, topped with a prune), a baked custard (very much like creme caramel but a bit denser -- good), passion fruit mousse (creamy, smooth, and delicious), and a prune tiramisu (topped with currants and the usual layers of cakey cookies and cream). the owner was so nice and accommodating in showing us everything while his (tiny) dining room was quickly filling up. i need to go back and eat the muquecas there . . . and get more dessert.
