It's back! The blue cheese burger at Gregoire

Morton the Mousse | Nov 2, 200506:14 PM

Quite possibly the perfect hamburger. The flavors of the Saint-Agur blue cheese are so subtle, they enhance the beef without distracting or overwhelming the palate. And the texture of the cheese is so creamy, not at all gloopy like some blue cheeses. Mixed greens add a hint of bitterness, tomato adds tartness and the pecans give the texture this perfect little crunch. But the beef patty is the star; premium meat charbroiled rare (although, you must insist on getting it rare when you order it), juicy, flavorful, amazing. The balance of taste and texture is superb. I will be lunching at Gregoire 2-3 times a week while this is on the menu. If there's a better hamburger in the Bay Area, I'd love to know about it. And it's only $7. Who knew that 7 bucks could buy happiness?

On a side note. To the two guys who sat at the counter yacking for 30 minutes after finishing their meal in spite of the mobs of people eating on the curb and in their cars: "this isn't a coffee house, you inconsiderate blowhards!" End rant.
