Block Island Report: The Oar, Ballards, PPP, and The National

My family and I went to BI this past Sat-Wed for a 4 night stay. We went to The Poor Peoples Pub, The Oar, Ballards, and The National. It was me, my husband, 9 year old daughter ( kids menu ) and 12 yr old adventurous eating nephew. The first night we went to PPP. Fun atmosphere, very casual & laid back, family friendly, just what we wanted. Nephew had cheeseburger with "junk" fries, I had Vietnamese Chicken sandwich, husband had chicken sandwich with prosciutto, tomato, mozzarella. Everyone happy...nothing fancy, just some easy tasty food. Sodas and a few beers...$63

We went to The Oar the next night ( all our fave ) GREAT location, awesome atmosphere, great service, great food: we had: peel & eat shrimp, calamari, crab cakes, tuna sashimi, tuna tartar, smoked fish dip, sodas, beers, frozen mudslides....$116

Next day, lunch at Ballards...we went for lunch because I wasn't sure how the "scene" would be at night time with the kiddos...we ate outside on the deck, gorgeous day, we had lobster tacos, lobster scampi, calamari ( best calamari of the trip I thought ) , blackened tilapia sandwich. All of us very, very happy with me. Sodas and no booze....$99

Our last meal out was at The the location but least favorite meal. We sat on the porch and it was super busy and service was a little slow. For food we had: pulled pork sandwich, steak sandwich, calamari, crab & shrimp rolls ( excited to order - very underwhelming ) and tuna sashimi. The boys liked their sandwiches a lot, seafood was ok...good but not great. Sodas and no booze: $106

Each night we went to get gelato ( I forget name? ) underneath The National Hotel. WONDERFUL. Had different flavors every night....chocolate valencia and peanut butter brownie being my favorites. $20 for 4 small each time...worth every penny

All in all, great food....very happy....beautiful weather....didn't want to come home!
