The school I teach at is on Easton Ave in New Brunswick. Up until today, whenever I wanted a hot dog or a burger for lunch I always went to Tido's Junkyard Dogs about a block away. Last week I noticed that a new sign went up another block over at Olde Queens Tavern advertising Blitzburgers. I also read a post here about a Blitzburgers in North Brunswick so I thought I would give it a try.
I ordered a CA burger to go, as my lunch period doesn't quite line up with the Olde Queens Tavern's hours. For $8, it came with fries and a small slaw so I was good to go. I just finished and I am feeling mixed about my lunch. Not that it was bad - the fries were from real sliced potatoes and the burger was a good size double patty on a nice bun and the slaw was good. But ...
The CA burger was described as having avocado on it and did not have any. The patties were a little overdone and I was not given a choice of how I wanted it cooked. I also could not discern any of the advertised "dry rub" that was supposed to be on the burger.
True, Blitzburger has salads, wraps, milkshakes and a few other things on the menu. It is also likely that since this one is possibly a satellite of the North Brunswick branch, they may have even more items there. I have definitely marked it down to try the North Brunswick place at dinnertime one day.
But for my money and tastebuds, Tido's wins the burger and fries battle hands down. If you have never tried Tido's, you are definately missing a bet. In addition to having the most authentic chicago dog around, and a full menu of excellent dog choices, they also have terrific fresh burgers and fries. Another nice surprise was their buffalo wings and chicken tenders. Those huge tenders come with some of the best honey mustard sauce I have ever had anywhere!
Not that I have had occasion to be there late, but Tido's is also open 11:30 am til midnight every day of the week.
