Last week I stopped by the Sebastopol Berry Farm to see if there might be some blueberry ice cream still available. No one was around, but I guess I made enough noise that one of the field workers came around to check and then called someone to help me. I was in luck, snagging one of the last two single scoops of blueberry ice cream for this year. i also tried the new flavor, black raspberry cheesecake, which I liked very much. As others have pointed out, the packaged single scoops can have some freezer burn.
While I was poking around looking for someone to open up, I noticed some lambs quarters (edible invasive weed) around some of the bushes near the driveway. Since the farm is certified organic, I figured this would be a safe source and asked the lady who came out if I could buy them. She was amused that I wanted them and I explained that I thought they were delicious. She told me that she likes them too, and that back in Mexico when food was scarce and they had no beans even to eat, they could always cook and enjoy these. She cut a huge bunch of them and didn't include them in my purchase total. I insisted on leaving $2 for the lambs quarters, the price I'd paid for a much smaller bunch from another farm.
The farm will continue to harvest raspberries for a few more months.
