black muslim bakery

I've been wanting to try a fish sandwich from the Black Muslim Bakery (in Oakland on San Pablo at Stanford), but I'm having a hard time ordering one.

The last few times my husband and I (white and Asian) have tried to order the fish sandwich, we were told that they were out. And each time, we could have sworn that the (black) customer immediately before us just got the fish sandwich.

Of course, this could be a coincidence, as it's completely possible they just ran out of fish sandwiches. But the Black Muslim Bakery is not exactly a welcoming place, and with the recent connection with the immigrant-owned liquor store vandalisms, I can't help wondering if race is an issue.

Have any non-black eaters out there had luck ordering the fish sandwich?

I'm not trying to cause any trouble or offend anybody - I just want a good fish sandwich!
