A discussion about dark chocolate that is too dark, not sweet enough, got me thinking. When I taste chocolate that I find too dark, I don't think "bitter," I think "sour." This has been true of several different brands, so I don't think it's a weird problem with a single manufacturer.
I just went and tasted a few drops of Angostura Bitters, so I could make sure that I can, in fact, taste bitterness. The very first taste I got was sweet, followed by what I think of as medicinal, which is obviously the bitter part.
Has anyone else experienced this? Am I just nuts? Do I need to have my tastebuds recalibrated somewhere?
