Bisquick waffle mods!

We are having an impromptu brunch tomorrow morning and will be using bisquick to make the waffles- don't judge, its really cold here in NYC and our usual home-made batter recipe requires too many groceries in this frigid weather! Anyway, we have a really nice waffle iron and my boyfriend is nervous about using bisquick, which I haven't cooked with forever.

I've heard that using club soda (which we have) in the batter will help them from being overly-dense and will make them fluffy, but those recipes don't call for any milk. I'm SURE there are other great ways to modify bisquick, so I turn to you, dear chowhounds, to help. If all works out, we might use bisquick for our next large, Southern Fried Brunch bash as it is way easier than lugging bags of flour and buttermilk home from the store...
