I had an eagerly anticipated lunch there on Friday and enjoyed it very much. I was quite impressed with the variety of dishes (100+) on the menu and plan on returning to try more dishes, particularly those with deer, frog and snails. I want to try the Catfish too!
The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 12:00 and had about 6-7 tables occupied when we left at 1:30. My friend and I shared four dishes:
Lotus Root salad with seafood
- nicely balanced and flavorful. Improved with chilli-infused nouc mam. I had to smile at the fish-shaped bowls they used to serve the fish sauce.
- Good flavor, but the pancake was not crispy, not even at the edges, as I typically get it elsewhere. The plate of lettuce, carrot, daikon and mint (including hot mint) was fresh.
- New to me. Stuffed with minced pork. Tender and tasty.
Cubed beef (can't remember exact name)
- very tender, slightly sweet meat.. We appreciated the small bowl of salt and pepper and lime.
Café Sua Da was on par with what I get in the Tenderloin.
Service was friendly and efficient. Decor was much nicer than most of the VN restaurants I frequent. I think the bill came to about $47. Portions were plentiful. We were both full and had lots left for take-away.
If anyone has plans to go there as a group and wants a seasoned dining companion please invite me!!!
