A few days back there was a post about restaurants serving food from movies. The timpano from the movie the Big Night was mentioned. A restaurant in San Diego makes it.
Well, it just so happened I was going to San Diego. So I rented the Big Night (never saw it before) and headed over to the restuarant.
The timapano was pretty good, however the restaurant was less than stellar. As someone said in reply to a comment in my post, "I can't imagine bad tiramisu". Well, that's sort of a para phrase, but it was true. We took one bite of the tiramisu and that was it. It was that bad. Primo would have not approved. I could picture him outside the restaurant scowling.
Denise, on the California board responded with a number of great recipes for timpano including one by Mario Batelli. Thought you would enjoy the link.
By the way, here's the link to the restaurant that I ate the timpano at. It has a good description of the origin of the dish. It seems it is a pre-Lenten dish, and by coincidence, I had the timpano on Fat Tuesday, the day before lent starts. Picture of timpano below. Also some of the recipies have pictures as well.
