Apparently cupcakes are trendy -- my impression is that this trend started in NY but I've seen hints that it's reaching the Bay Area as well.
When I first heard the cupcake buzz, I assumed there was something special and unique about these newly trendy cakes, but when I asked a visiting NYer, she assured me they were just cupcakes.
So now I'm baffled.
Yeah, cupcakes are fun, but they're the easiest thing in the world to make. Mix up the batter (and cupcakes use simple batters), pour them in the little paper-lined cupcake tins, slap some frosting and maybe some sprinkles on them. A reasonably kitchen-savvy eight year old could do it.
Can anyone explain to me why people are suddenly buying trendy (and presumably expensive) cupcakes?
