The Big Booty Bread Company opened recently on 23d between 7th and 8th with zero press or PR and perhaps the stupidest, most ill-conceived name for a dining establishment in all of New York.

I wasn't expecting much when I decided to stop by and give this lame name bakery a try today. Though everything seemed fresh-baked, at first glance, nothing looked appealing enough to sacrifice further expansion of my already big booty. There were decent looking scones, cookies that looked like they were straight from a box and OK looking croissants.

I was ready to save myself the carbs and hit the road when I noticed these popover-looking things in muffin tins that were not very promenantly displayed. I checked the menu board and guessed that they were the "Booty Buns." They came with a few choices of fillings, including Nutella, Dulce de Leche, Guava and Strawberry and Cream Cheese.

Nutella and dulce de leche are two foods I can never pass up, so I decided to give them a try. I think they were only $1.25 each and were slightly warm to the touch.

I started in on the dulce de leche and was very surprised by how good it was. The whole top part of the popover/bun thing was filled with tons of dulce de leche. The bun itself was slightly sweet, very doughy and pleasantly warm. The Nutella bun was nice, but it could have used a bit more Nutella.

Overall, these "Booty Buns" are a good find at a great price. I would imagine that they are SUBLIME if you manage to get there just as they are coming out of the oven, but given how few people there were in the store today, I'm not sure how high their "Booty Bun" turnover would be.
