An update on Bernard's to those of you who may travel to East Texas. They are still doing wonderful meals and altho' not as crowded as last year, the food still is still great and worth every penny. There are so few places in the area that even approach the care this place gives to meals. We had fresh halibut in an absolutely silky mornay sauce with wonderfully crisp asparagus and a simple toasted rice side. Others in the party had the crabmeat stuffed rainbow trout that drew raves. One had a simple steak that was cooked to perfection. The wine-by-the-glass choices are limited, but sturdy and acceptable. Our server was a sweet young thing that had such a terrible whine-y voice that we wished for someone else, but the food soothed our grated nerves. Skipped dessert this time as their creme brulee was not available. Maybe it is a "winter only" choice. We were just glad to see this restaurant still operating at its peak and hope it continues.
