Hi all, I will be in Germany at the end of September and early October on holiday. My trip starts in Berlin staying 3 nights and then Leipzig for one night. After that I will head to Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Tuebingen (Baden Wurttemberg) which a couple of local (native German) friends will recommend places to eat.
The problem I have right now is locating the right resource for food. I am keen to try 3 meals in Berlin with traditional food (one with Eisbein, one with schnitzel, and one with ex-eastern German territories'food), but knowing that Berlin is where experimentation abounds I would probably do only 2 "traditional German" meals when there. I normally eat mostly vegetarian salads on weekend vfor lunches, so anything vegan, or cafe/salad fares would be fine for some "new food". For Paris many helpful people have pointed to Parisbymouth, Alex Lobarno, David Lebovitz, and John Talbott's reviews, I wonder if there is any English-language food review websites that are the equivalents for Berlin?
Also, is the food in Leipzig different or similar as Berlin? I thought Saxony isn't particularly that far as opposed to Swabia where I would go later, I would see same dumplings potato stuff, but would like to know.
For your information, my itinerary looks like this:
1. Tuesday arrival into Frankfurt, ICE to Berlin
lunch: probably will have to make do with train meals - train doesn't arrive in Berlin until 2:25 pm
dinner - Berlin
half-day to full day seeing stuff in Potsdam
Back to Berlin
Taking the am ICE to Leipzig (arriving at just after 10 am)
Taking the pm ICE to Frankfurt (leaving at 1:34 pm)
