well, this place must be on our regular errand route because we keep finding ourselves hungry and within a block of it. This time it was a late afternoon game day so the place was nearly empty and the arrival of dishes was more all-at-once. Naan was once again fresh and buttery and great. We got Sada Karayla (bittermelon with onions and garlic), chicken Tikka masala (tandoori chicken in sauce), and Baigan Bharta (roasted mashed eggplant).
The chicken was a real disappointment. Meat was fine but the sauce was mild and bland and almost sweet.
The eggplant was smooth, smoky, spicy and sublime. Sorry about the alliteration. But it's all true.
The bittermelon was, well, bitter, and tasty, and spicy. Very distinct flavors, mingling and fascinating. There were big, interesting-looking seeds scattered about, which I presume were from the melon, which means that the melon used in this preparation is much older and larger than the tiny young melons I've seen and cooked with. I am guessing the melon is first baked or boiled and then prepared into a curry.
This is one of those places where I'm gonna have to go through the menu dish by dish. No complaints.
