Stopped by the new Bello Vino wine store (2789 Plymouth) in Ann Arbor for the first time today. (See link below for previous thread re expected opening date.) It was a quick visit, but first impressions were good:
- The layout is similar to that of the store that preceded it in the space (Merchant of Vino), so MOV regulars will have no trouble finding their way around.
- Wine selection is still being stocked so I won't comment on omissions, but I saw some interesting new stuff (better German selection, a few more Austrians) in addition to old favorites MOV stocked.
- There was someone assisting customers in the wine dept and he seemed fairly knowledgeable.
- Maybe best of all, wine prices seemed better than MOV. (I compared several bottles with prices I paid at one of the better discount wine stores in Chicago two weeks ago, and they were right on the money. MOV was always more.) Of course, new stores often start with low prices to attract customers, then raise them later.
Didn't look much at food, other than to partake freely of the many samples offered throughout the store. Next time.
All in all, worth a visit. Now if only Trader Joe's on Stadium would speed up their opening ...
