Beaujolais Nouveau...does anyone really like it?

I keep wondering why people get caught up in the Beaujolais Nouveau hype every November. The stuff generally tastes like bad Kool-Aid mixed with cough syrup, but people rush out every year to plunk down $10 or more a bottle. For the same price, you can find a decent bottle of Spanish, Italian or Languedoc red and not feel like you are drinking the younger brother of Mateus rose. Am I the only one who feels this way? Have I just missed the "discreet charm" of this hyped swill?
