Grabbed the last 2 seats at the bar of Beacon St. at 8:00 on Sat. and had a fun time. I'm still on my pear cocktail kick and theirs was quite good, friend stuck with Stella. My glass of pinot gris wasn't the best I'd ever had but tasted better with food. DC started with 3 of each of two kinds of oysters, for only $1 each! Surprised to see such a deal on a Sat. nite. He loved them. Good rolls and butter. We split some good mussels and frites, no broth will come close to Aquitaine but this was pretty good. Altho no bread specifically for the broth. We also got the rock shrimp app which I assumed was going to be fried but they were kind of buffalo style, definitely had a kick to it. Both were about $11. A side of brussels sprouts w/ bacon was only $3.50 and quite tasty. They had a couple amazing sounding desserts but no way could I even split one. Service was pretty nice, busy but not overly jammed.
Got a great lamb sandwich at the Plough last nite which was a special. A little pricey at $14 w/ fries (I got mine without the extra seasoning they normally put on), but lots of lamb with some feta cheese, olive tapenade and greens. Half is waiting for me at lunch. Friend's special bacon/onion pizza was fine, a side of the seasoned fries was a lot with good tabasco aioli. Some of the sandwich prices there have definitely crept up but it's still a good meal. And it's a great place to hear dj's on a Mon. nite, ha ha. Next time everyone.
