Had lunch at Beacon today, went late, 1:30pm, and were seated with no problems. I understand dinner can be a different story.

Inside it is indeed noisy, the acoustics are such that the sound bounces all over the place. The waiter was not unreasonable, whch means better than I had expected.

The food was generally outstanding. The sashimi pizza was out of this world, layers of tuna sashimi atop a small pizza was great, nice texture, delightful flavor, unlike anything I have ever eaten. Ordered a few sushi items, but they were clearly nothing that special.

The black cod was just terrific, sweet and luscious, almost a little too sweet, what with a hard-to-identify golden honey sauce pooled nearby. The sesame green beans on the side were cool and crisp and balanced the cod wonderfully. The cod was as good as I've had at Nobu (Matsuhisa's NY outlet), and that is saying something.

The dessert list looked incredible, there were 4-5 things I was dying to have including the rice creme brulee, ring ding, and the rice krispee sundae. I settled on the Lychee Ice, which was great, a scoop of sorbet atop a pile of lychees and raspberries. If you're into lychees this is a very good dish, if not, I would certainly pass.

Overall Beacon gets high marks for food and innovative menu, the service was uneven as expected, what with our entree coming about 5 seconds after the appetizer plates were cleared away. Still, if you're like me and there primarily for the food, Beacon was top notch.
