BBQ-Sedalia and "Arthur Bryant's" at MCI

I just returned from a weekend in Sedalia. Had hoped to eat at Kehde's BBQ, but found that the restaurant had recently burned. (Good news; it is slated to reopen soon).

Luckily, I did find a great BBQ beef sandwich at the Pit Stop on Thompson Blvd. I would definitely recommend this place to Q lovers who happen to pass through Sedalia.

Enroute to and from the KC Airport, I was in a shuttle, so was not able to stop at Arthur Bryant's. (I have been there three times and each experience was BBQ heaven)! Earlier, I had noticed that there was an "Arthur Bryant's" right IN the airport, and I had enough time for a meal, so was definitely looking forward to chowing down on a Bryant beef sandwich.

It took me awhile to find the restaurant, as it was part of a sports bar (in Terminal A). I saw a limited menu--beef, pork or burnt end sandwich. I opted for the beef. What a disappointment! This "beef sandwich" bore NO resemblance to Bryant's! Two small pieces of white bread, with parboiled, gristly beef and ketchup-like sauce. I asked the waitress if I could at least have some REAL Bryant's sauce, but she said "The customers complained about the regular sauce."

I would hate to think that ANYONE would associate this garbage with what is served at the REAL Arthur Bryant's. I can't believe that the Bryants would lend their name to this travesty.

Next time I'm in K.C., I will go to AB's on Brooklyn, or have no BBQ at all!
