Bay Area slices

Yesterday I finally made it to NY Pie in Santa Rosa after hearing about it on chowhound several months ago. I ordered a slice of plain cheese to check out the quality, without extra ingredients conflicting with the main 3: dough, sauce, cheese.

Overall, the quality was very high, especially in the texture of the dough. It was perfectly thin and crisp, and dry on the bottom, as it should be, in spite of the oil oozing out of the cheese on top. The sauce was an unusual bright orange color and didn't show any signs that there were chunks of tomato left in it. It may have been canned, unnecessarily pre-cooked, or both. Other than the sauce, my only complaint was that they didn't shift the pizza in the oven to a hotter spot, just before doneness, in order to give the bottom a slight singed quality, as they often do in NY. It was just barely browner than pale. A touch of corn meal mixed with the flour that they use during the dough stretching process would have helped the texture as well.

As far as my favorite Bay Area slices go, I'd rate them this way:

1. Pizza My Heart, Los Gatos
2. Village Pizza, Van Ness or Clement
3. Escape from NY, Haight St.
4. NY Pie, Santa Rosa

These are the most NY-like that I've experienced in my 14 years on this coast. Are there other favorites on this board? I've actually never been to Pauline's, but I hear good things about it. I don't know if they do slices though.
