Basso Est - Short review

My friend and I ended up at Basso Est Wednesday night (Orchard and Houston) and had a very nice experience. First and foremost, I cannot say enough about the friendly, attentive and respectful service. We were warmly greeted and immediately served a complimentary Bruschetta. I hadn’t seen my dinner partner for quite some time and we were doing a lot of catching up. Our server Alex (I believe he said he was the head of the wait staff) was keenly perceptive to the fact that we were conversing and offered no pressure to get us to place our order.

The food was not disappointing. Appetizers were Octopus salad and grilled calamari. Both were very good and the calamari was very tender. Main dishes were both specials for the evening...Pumpkin Ravioli and Fettuccini with broccoli rabe and sausage. Both were very flavorful and the pasta was homemade. The prices were very reasonable.

Honestly, I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying a meal at Basso Est. Yes, there is better food in the city, but our meal was very tasty, inexpensive and I really can’t remember the last time I received such pleasant service.
