I'm looking for the BEST basic (i.e., no nuts or other stuff in it, except maybe coffee. Whoops, I guess that's not so basic) chocolate layer cake recipe. I've tried many, but I haven't hit upon the perfect one yet. I prefer a moist cake, and I know shortening makes cakes moist, but I would prefer using butter (though in this quest for the perfect chocolate cake I am not opposed to using shortening if necessary).
Thanks in advance, you hounders!
