The Alameda Marketplace is now almost complete with the opening the weekend of Baron's Meats and Poultry. This full-service market offers a range of premium meats and poultry, including "organic," "natural," "grassfed" and Niman (the deli across the aisle also carries a selection of Niman cured products: prosciutto, etc.). Although the selection is small, I suspect they could order specific cuts if you wanted them.
Everything looked top quality. I was particularly intrigued by the "Smart Chicken" which claims that in addition to being free-range, sustainably farmed by grower owners and organic, that it's cleaner and tastes better because they process the chickens by means of air chilling rather than water immersion.
Has anyone tried the Smart Chicken?
