Bar La Grassa has lost its way

Monday night, loud and busy. Valet $6, adjacent lot with meters. Scallop app: 2 large, sweet and perfectly seared on a bed of greasy rubbery -was that overcooked pancetta or a dead cabbage leaf? Not fork tender, didn't go into my mouth. Warm bread nicely herbed. Gigante bean table service, well balanced. Must really exert effort for water, and don't hope she'll remember no ice, not that she stays, hears or cares. Cocktail list is heavy on gin and extremely limited. The duke was very cucumber-y with lots of ice and leaves, no depth. Hibiscus would be better suited to a summer picnic, but was not overly sweet. They took away our cocktail menu, forcing me to get creative, Bombardier and Negroni both competently made, although both presented with residual ice and crappy twist. Egg-Lobster-toast: scrambled soft was perfect, charcoaled toast saved by a trace of truffle oil. Scant Lobster was overcooked and generally tasteless, they would do better to capitalize on the mushroom.
Takes 2 or 3 requests to get our pompous waiter to return. Despite this, kitchen turns out orders rapidly. Filled pasta: Mushroom and taleggio agnolotti was lovely, topped with roasted brown shrooms and the pasta was only slightly thick. Dessert: Nocciolata. OK if it says hazelnut in the title, I should be able to taste it. Heavy greasy simple cake, a brown scant stripe of I assume Nutella, heavy cinnamon streusel top. I can provide a much better New Jersey Crumb Cake recipe. I notice it is off today's menu. Coffee fresh and strong-just don't expect check back or refills. Total about $134. Overall food about a 3-4, service about a 1-2, atmosphere maybe a 2-3, depending on your preference to be able to talk. Love the old beams and brick. I certainly was NOT welcomed or served well. Needless to say, will not return. Perhaps when they lost their chef they lost their way. They need to get back to basics and remember what profession they are in.
