Bar BQ Review (long)

I visited Bar BQ this afternoon, 6th Ave at 20th Street in Brooklyn. I had read mixed things, but was compelled to try it because I live nearby and my husband loves barbeque.
First, the place itself is great. The service is very friendly, the room is cute, the TV is visible but ignorable, the prices are really low- especially if you go early when pints are $2 and there is free food. Today, the free offerings were mac & cheese, sausage, and chicken wings, all of which were pretty good, the mac & cheese being fairly addictive.
I personally can't really comment about the barbeque itself, which makes my "review" admittedly lame. I enjoyed it, but I only recently started eating meat after a 15-year hiatus so my basis for comparison is pretty non-existent. My husband really liked it and was thrilled to find this place. The meat is smoked, pulled, and served dry with 2 accompanying house sauces (one sweet, one vinegar) and a basket of other hot sauces, etc. I appreciated the way that sauces are done after my husband and I's "ideal" flavors turned out totally different. I chose potato salad as a side, which had a bit too much cilantro for my taste but was otherwise fine. They offer chocolate cake from Babycakes and Steves Key Lime pie for dessert, both of which were good.
All in all, I am mostly writing this because it was a really pleasant way to eat and drink away the afternoon. The food was good, and the place itself was great. Lots of attention to detail, such as padding the side of the bar so your knees don't bang against it- which counts.
Also, for any bourbon enthusiasts, the selection is huge.
