Banh Mi and Vegetarian Vietnamese in the OTHER valley

I was pleased to learn that there's a BA LE in Reseda and headed over there with the pups yesterday. Well, the place has a Health Dept. "B" and although the folks were really friendly, the place looked quite funky, and maybe not in a good way. More importantly, the Banh Mi were just not as good as at the San Gabriel branch (I'm assuming it's a branch). The bread was spongy and not fresh and crisp crusted like the bread in San Gabriel. The chicken was not as tasty either. In an effort towards full disclosure, we don't eat pork, which probably makes it stupid for us to be such Banh Mi fans, although the San Gabriel shop has a delicious beef sandwich which wasn't available in Reseda.

But, ever curious, I wandered (unfortunately after eating my less than heavenly sandwich) into another store in the same mini mall: Vihn Loi Tofu Vietnamese Vegetarian Restaurant. They have a lot of great Asian products. I got some of the flower flavored hard candies I love for 75 cents a bag. (It's about $2.00 most places in San Gabriel). We were full from the sandwiches but we did share a fantastic vegetarian egg roll. The place was meticulous and the proprietor was really sweet and helpful. I picked up a copy of the menu. Nothing over five bucks. The have Pho, Bun Bo Hue, Banh Mi and lots of tofu dishes and a variety of interesting sounding puddings and desserts. The next time I'm in the Reseda area, this is an absolute destination.
