Just back from a relatively non-chow-oriented trip to Vietnam and Thailand, and I'm left with a pressing question: I became completely addicted (after only two exposures) to something I found in a stall at Chatuchak.
Foodfirst (or to anyone else who can answer -- but hey, I'm all for recognizing authority when I see it!), if I describe it, do you think you can put a name to it? Name --> potential recipe --> potential to recreate at home!
Take a fresh rice noodle approximately 10 cm square. Place lettuce leaf, cilantro and basil in middle of noodle. Spoon on a mixture of cooked ground pork and shallots. Fold up like an envelope and serve in bundles of half a dozen with an amazing spicy green dipping sauce (chilis, cilantro, vinegar?).
I'm not admitting here how many of these little delights I'm capable of eating at one sitting ...
