Bang Bang Sauce

A few nights ago I made a small batch of Bang Bang sauce from this recipe:

It looked simple enough, and individually, I like all of the ingredients, plus I like spicy/creamy sauces.

At first I made it without the sugar, let it sit overnight, didn't really like it much, added the sugar, let it sit overnight, still didn't like it much, cut it with more mayo, let it sit overnight, and still didn't like it much.

Gotta admit that I've never had commercial Bang Bang anything in a restaurant, it just looked like something I might like when I saw it while surfing the web for something else.

Perhaps the problem is that I'm tasting it with some leftover poached chicken so that it would have a neutral background to taste it with. Perhaps it's supposed to be used with something flavored differently. Perhaps the problem is the recipe. Perhaps I'm just not destined to like this stuff.
