In NYC, many years ago, at a subway bake shop, I used to buy a muffin whose name I've forgotten. I hope someone here will recognize it from my description below, and tell me the name of it.
This muffin was clearly in the spice cake family, but it was not light and fluffy, as conventional gingerbread is. I remember this muffin as being quite dense and moist. It might even have been a bit "grainy", that is, with a crumb-like texture inside. I'm guessing that those qualities must have come from molasses, and probably some kind of fat.
Does this sound at all familiar to anyone?
