Baile Corcaigh pub, Detroit

Finally hit the Baile Corcaigh (BY-lee CORK-ee, I believe) pub in Corktown in Detroit today--right there on Trumbull a couple blocks south of what's left of Tiger Stadium. It's an Irish pub run by genuine Irish immigrants, with live music in the evenings. Lunch was on the expensive side but worth it. A friend and I split a big wedge of a cheddar, leek, and onion pie, which was obviously homemade in every detail and just superb. We started off with the Connemara soup, a great homemade cabbage soup. They had, as you might guess, an extensive selection of both Irish beer and Irish whiskey, and where other bars have happy hour, they have melancholy hour. I will definitely be going back for dinner entrees, which are more "Irish" than the sandwiches. They're kind of tucked away over there, but next time you're caught in a long line at Slows (which is when Slows is at its worst, I've noticed), drop down Trumbull and check it out. Currently open Wednesdays through Sundays.
